Labels and Judging Others

Never judge another until you have walked in their shoes.

Better yet - don't judge at all.

What is the point of judging others anyway? People constantly change and so it is inevitable that judgements will always lose their validity. Furthermore, what good does judging another do for you? What good does it do for the person you judge? It's a lose-lose situation all around. Time could be better spent.

However, if you are going to judge, refer back to the first sentence:

'Never judge another until you have walked in their shoes. '

There's much more to this sentence than meets the eye. It really needs to be thought about to be properly understood. There are so many things to consider.

Some of which are:

- Did that person get the pair of shoes they wanted?
- Do they fit?
- Are they comfortable?
- Would they rather have another pair?
- What's it like to walk in them?
- What's it like to run?

Now, on to labels. When you label someone, you put them into a category. People tend to behave just as you label them. When you start telling yourself things enough, you'll soon begin to believe it - even if it isn't true. The same applies to others. If you openly label somebody something, chances are they'll start to believe it and actually become that label - even if it's false. This is why it's good to find company amongst those who bring out the best in you. You can also return the favour by bringing out the best in others. Take note of their positive traits and focus on them.

When keeping your labels to yourself - if you see someone as 'stupid', from that point onwards you'll begin noticing all the stupid things they do and be almost blind to the smart moves they make. It's all about the way you see things, which is why one should always look on the bright side - for your own sake and the sake of others.

Labelling and judging are bad. They leave no room for flexibility in a world ever changing.
